The Windward Institute is delighted to announce that The Institute’s professional development offerings for this summer will kick-off with a webinar on Wednesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. (EST) presented by Devin Kearns, PhD. In this webinar, Dr. Kearns will present “Principles of Explicit Instruction.”
Explicit instruction is a research-validated approach to providing instruction to students. It involves establishing clear objectives, modeling, and adhering to a set of supporting practices that lead to student success. This webinar addresses the foundational elements of explicit instruction, including an introduction of its basic principles and examples of their use accompanied by hands-on practice.
In addition to being a WI faculty member, Dr. Kearns is an associate professor of special education in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut (UConn) where he is also a research scientist for the Center for Behavioral Education & Research. Along with Windward, Professor Kearns is a member of the Global Literacy Hub sponsored by the Haskins Laboratories. He is also an affiliated faculty member for the UConn Institute for Brain and Cognitive Sciences (IBACS) and the UConn Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy.
