The Windward Institute and The Windward School present two free educational lectures open to the public in the spring and fall of each year: the Fall Community Lecture and Robert J. Schwartz Memorial Lecture in the spring. While the lectures are free and open to the public, registration is required.

Early identification of reading difficulties in children is critical for the prevention of reading disabilities and the negative consequences of these conditions. In this presentation, Hugh Catts, PhD, will

  • Explain the importance of early identification and intervention of dyslexia and other related reading disabilities 
  • Identify factors that contribute to reading disabilities
  • Address factors that lead to poor reading comprehension like vocabulary and background knowledge
  • Provide expert insights about choosing the most appropriate and effective screening instruments for early readers
  • Offer practical applications for screening and intervention in educational settings
